You Forget

“You’re the ideal daughter,”
they all said.

“You’re the kind of woman
a man would come home to,”
they all said.

Why do you bond me
to my duties?

You forget,
My relations don’t define me,
I define my relations.

You forget,
My dreams, my aspirations
I am not a reflection of those,
They are my soul.

You forget,
Red lipsticks, or bangles
They are not my personality,
They are my choice.

You forget,
To love, or not to love
Is not my need of age,
It is my treat.

You forget,
I am the creation.
I am the art.

My relations don’t define me,
I define my relations.

You forget,
I am the root,
The rest are my branches.

I die,
And they all cease to exist.
