Handicapped

You didn’t see,

Her eyes that were

Lined with cries

And sleepless tossing;

Her aching ribs

That caged a body

Starved.

You didn’t listen,

To the smile she gave

As she understood

Your time;

To the walls of her

Confidence demolish,

As the bulldozer

Fueled by your ego

Ran over it.

You didn’t speak,

As she battled her fears,

Trying to kill them

While they ripped her apart;

As she needed you

To feed them

The poison

Of your assurance

But all they got

Was the elixir

Of your indifference.
